USA Downs Canada, Advances to U18 Championship

Jack Campbell was the USA Player of the Game, making 32 saves in a 2-1 victory over Canada in the U18 semifinals. The lone goal he gave up was on a 5 on 3 in the second period. The Americans outshot Canada 21-7 in the final frame and netted a pair of goals to steal the win. They'll take on the Russians on Sunday at 7:00 Central for the gold medal.

The Russians are the only team to beat USA in this tournament, winning a 6-5 decision after USA blew a pair of leads. I like our chances. We didn't have any trouble putting in goals in the last meeting and we'll have Campbell in net this time.

Tonight's performance means that Campbell now has a .99 GAA and a .961 save percentage in the tournament.

The U17s tied up their series with Mahoning Valley at 1 with a 6-4 win. Jacob Fallon had 3 points (1-2--3) and Luke Moffatt had an assist in the game.

So Hunwick fought Komisarek last night... Anyone know if this is the first Michigan alum fight in the NHL?

Mike Brown and Eric Nystrom had a fight this winter.

To be fair, that wasn't the first time that Nystrom has fought a fellow Michigan player:

I only remember that article because my roommate wasn't a sports fan and thought it was about the football team. This confused him because of the following sentence:

"Although Michigan coach Red Berenson said he doesn't encourage fighting amongst his players, he still likes the intensity and would rather see disputes settled with fists then by hitting each other with sticks."

This led to hilarious exchange with my roommate asking me where the football team would get sticks ("do they practice in the woods?") while I tried to figure out what the heck he was talking about.
